things to try in 2025

I jotted down these ideas as a gentle reminder to myself. Feel free to pick one or two that resonate with you. If you’re already doing them all, consider a self-check to evaluate your progress.

1. Social Media Detox
What’s your social media "poison"—the app where you spend way too much time? How long can you go without it? Set a realistic goal (hours per day, days per month, or more) to unplug. My friend Wangu, a mother of four, decided not to replace her smartphone in 2024. Radical, yes, but proof that it’s possible. As James Clear suggests, decide how you’ll spend the time you save.

2. Finish One Book
If you’re not much of a reader, start with one book—paper or audio. Choose strategically, aligning the book with your "why," so you’re motivated to finish it. Simon Sinek once said he’s not much of a reader, so you’re in good company.

3. Forgiveness
Write a letter to someone you need to forgive—yourself included. Use pen and paper, then tear it up after. The act of writing can be incredibly healing.

4. Exercise
Pick an activity you’ll enjoy or can motivate yourself to do: dancing, yoga, running, swimming, or even walking. My goal this year is to move every day, even if it’s just walking 1 km. I’ve missed one day so far, but I’m not letting that slow me down. Find what works for you, stay consistent, and allow yourself grace.

5. Minimize Your Closet
I tried this in 2022 and already doing it again in 2025: wear everything in your closet at least once. No repeats until you’ve worn it all. This way, you’ll rediscover what fits, makes you feel good, and deserves to stay. You might even find items to donate or reconnect with forgotten favorites.

6. Prioritize Sleep
Aim for 7–8 hours of sleep per night for a set number of days—maybe your age in days as a target. My biggest struggle isn’t falling asleep (I’m out the second my head hits the pillow) but going to bed early. It’s like FOMO kicks in at 9 p.m. Since I’m an early riser, I’ll try for two consecutive nights of eight hours. Starting tonight… maybe.

7. Eat Clean for One Month
Commit to unprocessed foods for at least a month. Choose wholemeal bread, brown rice, and natural sweeteners like fruits. Skip sugar in tea or coffee, sodas, and juices. Go back to basics and rediscover how great clean eating can feel.

These are a few ideas from my 2024-25 list. Feel free to borrow or create your own. Whatever you choose, find an accountability partner who can cheer you on and keep you on track, and while it at, practice being the most positive person you know.

HAVE A SPLENDID 2025!
